In this Neil’s Minutes, Neil shares a journey that began with a vision he had in Perth, Australia, over 20 years ago. That vision, involving a campfire and encounters with Aboriginal leaders, stayed with him for decades. Recently, he finally had the opportunity to visit the place he’d seen in his dream—Catherine, Australia, near Darwin. Neil also participated in National Forgiveness Week, a ministry focused on reconciliation and hope, in Beswick, Australia.
Around a campfire, Neil experienced powerful, candid conversations with Aboriginal leaders, witnessing the impact of sharing the gospel in a way that honors cultural identity and heritage. He reflects on the importance of presenting truth and hope without forcing people to abandon their traditions, showing that authentic faith can uplift communities while respecting their history.
When asked to speak at National Forgiveness Week, Neil delivered a message about:
- Truth vs. tradition in Christianity
- Indigenous people shouldn’t have to “become like Europeans” to accept Jesus
- They have inherent value and spiritual heritage that shouldn’t be destroyed
Aboriginal leaders told Neil: “This is the gospel we need… You can’t be white fella because you’re telling us we have value. You must be black fella.”
